Biblical explanation
The Bible describes a conflict involving accusations against God and His people. Satan is called: “the accuser of our brethren” (). The book of Job gives a remarkable picture of Satan challenging God's motives and claiming that Job serves God only because God protects and blesses him (). God permits Satan to demonstrate the validity of his accusations within defined limits. The cross also reveals God's character in the midst of this conflict. Jesus said: “Now shall the prince of this world be cast out” (). Yet Satan continues operating for a time after the cross. The final judgment will demonstrate God's justice. Paul says: “that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged” (). Scripture does not give us every detail about why God chose this precise timeline. It does show that God does not act arbitrarily, that Satan's rebellion is being exposed, that Christ's victory is decisive, and that Satan's final destruction is certain. The Bible therefore does not portray God as unable to destroy Satan. Rather, Satan's destruction occurs according to God's appointed judgment.
