Genesis says: “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence” (). God saw that: “every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (). The Flood was therefore presented as divine judgment. Yet Genesis emphasizes God's mercy toward Noah: “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD” ().
