Did Jesus Abolish the Law?

Jesus' own words are decisive: “I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil” (). The word “fulfil” should not automatically be understood as “abolish.” Jesus then demonstrated what He meant by expanding and deepening the moral principles of the law. For example: “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill… But I say unto you…” (). He moved from the external act to the condition of the heart. Likewise, He connected adultery with lust and emphasized truthfulness, love, forgiveness, and enemy-love. Jesus fulfilled the law in His life and mission, but He did not teach that God's moral commandments were abolished.
