Biblical explanation

Luke says: “Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils” (). She followed Jesus and supported His ministry. She was present at the crucifixion and burial and went to the tomb after Jesus' death. John records that the risen Christ appeared to her: “Jesus saith unto her, Mary” (). She then became a witness to the disciples: “Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord” (). Mary Magdalene therefore holds a significant place in the resurrection narrative. The Bible does not identify Mary Magdalene as a prostitute. That identification comes from later tradition and from combining different women in the Gospel accounts.
