God revealed His name to Moses as “I AM THAT I AM” (). This points to God's unique and self-existent nature. He is not dependent upon another being for His existence. declares, “The LORD our God is one LORD.” Scripture consistently teaches that there is one true God (; ). The Bible also describes God's character. “God is love” (). He is holy (), righteous (), merciful (), faithful (), and truthful (). Jesus said, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (). Scripture gives substantial information about God's character and works, but it does not explain every mystery concerning God's eternal nature. reminds us that some things belong to God and have not been revealed to humanity.
