Biblical explanation
God explicitly warned Israel: “There shall not be found among you any one… that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch” (). The reason is given immediately: “For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD” (). Isaiah also asks: “Should not a people seek unto their God?” (). Instead of seeking the dead or supernatural mediums, God's people are directed to God and His Word. The New Testament likewise records people abandoning magical practices when they accepted Christ (). Scripture clearly rejects occult practices. It does not teach that every supernatural claim made by occult practitioners is genuine. Some may involve deception, fraud, psychological manipulation, or other explanations. But Scripture does warn that genuine supernatural deception exists. Paul says Satan can transform himself: “into an angel of light” ().
