Biblical explanation

Jesus spoke of the end of the age and His return (). Peter describes the final day of judgment and says: “the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat” (). But Scripture does not end with destruction. Peter continues: “Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness” (). Revelation gives the same ultimate picture: “I saw a new heaven and a new earth” (). God's purpose is therefore not merely to destroy but ultimately to restore. The Bible does not give a modern scientific description of exactly how every physical process will occur. It does clearly teach: Christ returns. Judgment occurs. Evil is finally destroyed. God creates a renewed world. God's people dwell with Him forever.
