Biblical explanation
The biblical principle is to seek the truth of God's Word. Paul instructed believers to rightly handle: “the word of truth” (). The Bereans examined Scripture carefully rather than simply accepting a teacher's claims: “They searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (). This principle applies to translations as well. The KJV has many strengths, including its dignified language and historical influence. Its wording has also shaped generations of English-speaking Bible readers. However, the KJV is a translation into English. It was not the language in which the Old and New Testaments were originally written. The Bible never declares that the KJV, or any other English translation, is uniquely inspired. Therefore, Christians should avoid making the translation itself the object of faith. The object of faith is God and His revealed Word. Comparing translations can sometimes clarify difficult passages. Studying the original languages can provide still greater precision when necessary.
