How Do I Forgive Someone Who Hurt Me?

Biblical explanation

Jesus said: “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you” (). Paul says: “Recompense to no man evil for evil” (). And: “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves” (). Forgiveness does not require pretending that abuse or injustice was acceptable. Scripture also supports confronting wrongdoing, establishing boundaries, seeking justice, and protecting the vulnerable. Forgiveness and reconciliation are related but not identical. A person can forgive someone without immediately restoring the same level of trust.
