John the Baptist announced that Jesus would baptize people with the Holy Spirit (). Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Spirit's power before carrying the gospel to the world (), and that promise was visibly fulfilled at Pentecost (). When hearers asked how to respond, Peter called them to repent, be baptized in Jesus' name, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit ().
